Advanced Tests

The advanced disk test consists of the following tests.

Seek test:  Nondestructive test which determines a "average seek time"

Read test: Non destructive test which determines average throughput in kb/second.

Verify test: Non Destructive test.  This test is the same as the read test except that if a bad/marginal block is found it is added to the "grown defect list" and is then unavailable to the drive.  An alternative block replaces the original block.

Write only test:  A Destructive Test which also give you an average throughput for write only.  This performance data is usually used in evaluating raid sets.

Write Verify/Write Read:  Both destructive tests which combine the features of the Read Test, Verify Test and the write only test.  This is the most standard test for testing whether a drive works properly.

Torture Test: Designed to do drive start, stop, staged butterfly (low seek, high seek).  This tests the drive mechanics where the other tests test the platter (blocks).

User Choices: Fields the user can change with drop down lists.

test action: random, sequential up, sequential down, butterfly

transfer size: 64 KB to 1KB

#passes: 1 to continuous

write pattern:  ten choices

max test time: hours, minutes

Start and ending block:
