SCSI Pro Screen Shots

Update Device List

With Windows 2000 and NT you can add SCSI peripherals to the bus and force a rescan without rebooting

the operating system.  This was a feature available with our Win 3.11 product and Microsoft took this

away with the Win95/98 operation systems.

Note: The cursor should be pointing on "Update Device List" not reset bus

Under W2K and XP there is a second way to force a rescan.

   My Computer/View System Information/Hardware/Device Manager/right click on device/

scan for hardware changes - twice

You must repeat this twice: Once for the system to recognize that a device has been removed from the

system.  A second time for the system to reconcile it's active device list.  This process is unique and only

applicable to people who want to swap out devices without rebooting the system.

W2K and XP covet their devices (specifically to supply specialized support through the plug-'n-play and

media managers) and the whole system setup and device indexing scheme can be corrupted

by losing or gaining a device the system has not been prepared for

There are hot swap drivers available that minimize this pain but I still would go through the same

procedure just to make sure that the O/S is stable.
